KUWAIT, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation (KAPF) announced Wednesday the launch of an international research competition on endowments under the patronage of H.H. the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
At a press conference, KAPF's Secretary-General Dr. Mohammad Abdulghaffar Al-Shareef said the competition was aimed at developing research in the field of endowments, voluntary charity work, as well as encouraging researchers to devise proper settlement for problems relevant to endowments.
The competition will cover the contributions of the endowment system in supporting social development by private bodies, comparative studies between conventional and modern means in investing endowment funds, role of media outlets in reviving the tradition of endowments, in addition to comparing between government run and privately administered endowments, he explained.
On her part, KAPF's Deputy Secretary-General Eman Al-Humaidan said the competition's awards were valued at USD 66,000.
The role of endowments in serving the goals of Islam, the affect of economic reforms on the endowment system and other issues will also be covered in the competition, she added.
