KUWAIT: The Khalifa School held an awards ceremony for 191 students in which the ASDAN certificate was distributed at its premises in Salmiya yesterday. Students were awarded certificates for participating in different activities.
After a recitation of Kuwait's National Anthem, Hamra Khan, Principal of the Khalifa School delivered a welcome speech on the occasion. The students were accompanied by caretakers to receive awards on stage.
ASDAN is a British program that provides opportunities to all learners in order to develop their personal and social attributes. There are seven levels of the NEW HORIZON AWARD. In addition, some students were awarded the 'Transitional Challenge Award' and the 'Towards Independence Award.'
We thank you very much for supporting your child. Your child has worked very hard during the year to meet their goals and achieve this award. Three different types of awards will be given today. New Horizons is a learner-centered program, offering structure and flexibility within a framework in Personal, Social, and Health modules.
'Transitional Challenge' develops and accredits independent living and personal skills for learners. 'Towards independence' provides a framework of activities through which personal, social and independence skills can be developed, including accrediting teachers, and specialists in different departments. They worked with your child on a daily basis," noted Hamra Khan. This academic year, 2010-2011, the entire school enrolled into the ASDAN program, and a total of 191 students received the award.
Khalifa School For Special Needs was founded in 1988. It is recognized as the first private educational institution for special needs students in Kuwait. It provides the latest educational programs and support services adapted to the requirements of a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society, which prepares disabled students with mental handicap and multiple disabilities to develop and improve in life skills and functional academic areas, to be able to participate in daily-life activities as independently
as possible.
Currently, there are 191 students of both girls and boys registered at the Khalifa School. They range from 3 to 21 years old. Their mental and physical challenges include, but are not limited to Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delay, and Down's Syndrome.
