ERBIL - The Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC) has not yet demanded to withdraw confidence from the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki but if it does all its members are united over the decision, an MP said.
So far the State of Law Coalition (SLC), led by Maliki, has hardly responded to the demands stipulated in Erbil and Najaf meetings, said KBC MP Farhad Atrushi.
Atrushi said seven of the demands require Maliki to comply with previous political agreements and the constitution so that a real partnership government is formed.
The eighth and the last point is withdrawing confidence from Maliki, he added.
During two recent meetings n Erbil and Najaf, major political leaders, including Kurdistan's President Massoud Barzani warned that they will withdraw confidence from Maliki and his government should he continue sidelining political partners in decision making.
In the second meeting in Najaf they demanded the National Alliance (NA) to replace Maliki with another candidate. The NA's deadline terminated yesterday with no response, just like the previous two-week deadline announced in Erbil.
Atrushi said despite its "weak" response to the demands of political leaders, the SLC bets that the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), some Iraqiya MPs and the Iraqi president support Maliki.
Some parties within the NA, the Shiite super bloc, as the ISCI, the Badr Organization, the SLC and the Fadhila Party allegedly support Maliki.
Asked whether the KBC and the Iraqiya List are divided over replacing Maliki, Atrushi said "Iraqiya is not united in its position, especially its Arab MPs from Kirkuk and Mosul .... Also While Iraqiya and Free Iraqiya favor Maliki more.
"But there are no divisions in the KBC [with regard to this issue]".
Concerning Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's position about the issue, Atrushi said the president and Maliki are at "good terms" with each other... "It is not unlikely that their parties also have strong relations."
He continued "according to the constitution since he [Talabani] has sworn to be the father to all [Iraqis] he cannot speak the same way like Kurds in all occasions.... The reason why he did not sign the letter in Erbil meeting was only that the president should not become a party to the disputes."
On April 28 in his office in Erbil, Talabani hosted the first meeting between Barzani, Iraqiya List Leader Ayad Allawi, Sadr Crrent Leader Muqtada Sadr and speaker of the Iraqi House of Representatives Osama al-Nujaifi. The leaders except the president signed the warning letter which was sent to NA.
"Both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) are united [over withdrawing confidence from Maliki] and in Najaf meeting Braham Saleh deputy for PUK general secretary was also present," Atrushi said.
The four leaders who met in Erbil and Najaf are due to hold a third meeting in Mosul over replacing Maliki.
