Amman - His Majesty King Abdullah II and visiting Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov on Tuesday discussed ways and means of cementing economic and cultural ties between Jordan and the Russian republic.

During the meeting, attended by Royal Court Chief Khaled Karaki, the King's Advisor for Media Affairs and Communications Amjad Adayleh, Royal Court Advisor Amer Hadidi and Russia's ambassador to Jordan, His Majesty reiterated Jordan's support of Chechen people to help preserve their Islamic identity.

He also voiced hope that a twinning agreement between Amman and the Chechen capital Grozny would help the exchange of expertise in various fields, adding that the opening of the first school for Chechen children in Zarqa is part of efforts to protect Chechen culture and language.

The Chechen leader has named a main Grozny street after King Abdullah and a park in the Chechen capital carries the name of the late King Hussein.

In December, the Greater Amman Municipality named a main street in the West Amman suburb of Sweileh after Chechen President Ramazan Kadyrov and a park in the same area was also given the name of former Chechen President Ahmad Hadji Qadirov.
