AMMAN (Petra) -- The National Electric Power Company signed an agreement with the Jerusalem District Electricity Company on Monday to provide Jericho with electricity. Under the agreement, Jordan will supply Jericho with power from the Sweimeh plant near the Dead Sea through a 30-kilometre double-circuit overhead power line.

Twenty-two kilometres will pass through Jordanian territory while the rest will fall within territory held by the Palestinian Authority in the Jericho area. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Azmi Khreisat and Acting President of the Palestinian Energy Authority Omar Kittaneh attended the signing ceremony.
