Amman - Jordan Customs Department (JCD) recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from the World Health Organization (WHO) for its effective measures applied at border crossings to protect intellectual property rights (IPR).

This certificate is awarded to customs bodies regionally and internationally for embracing effective practices to combat all forms of trade fraud, especially smuggling of "fake" tobacco.

In a press release today, Director of JCD Ghaleb Sarayreh said his department is working hard to create an infrastructure lucrative to investment and to protect local community from harmful substances.

"JCD is implementing all plausible legislations to fight off trade fraud in Jordan and is mulling plans to amend current customs regulations to keep in pace with latest int'l developments in IPR fields," he added.
