The Philippines’ best rock stars are set to perform tonight

Rock talent from southern Philippines will headline the “BisRock” concert at the Dubai World Trade Centre tonight. The event will be the biggest and largest gathering in Dubai of Cebuano rock artists.

Young Cebuano bands performing at the event are Urbandub (pictured), True Faith and Cueshe, and they will be joined by Budoy (inset), the renowned original Cebuano reggae singer-songwriter and TV host. Cebuano refers to the people who speak the eponymous language, which is spoken widely in southern Philippines.

The show will also feature performances by Filipino artists Frenchie Dy, the grand champion of Star In A Million, and Pepe Smith, the iconic rocker who was a member of the influential Juan dela Cruz band that revolutionised the Philippine rock scene in the ’70s.

True Faith has emerged as one of the Philippine’s most popular and accomplished bands since they formed in 1992. The band perform new wave sounds, Filipino pop songs and now embrace middle of the road music, including pop rock.

Cueshe, which originally started in Cebu City, made it big shortly after moving to Manila in 2005 with hit singles such as Stay, Sorry, Ulan, Can’t Let You Go and 24 Hours. The band’s debut album Half Empty, Half Full achieved double platinum album.

Urbandub is the first indie band that have released albums nationwide. The band have the unique and heaviest compilation of Pinoy rock music entitled Full Volume with a remake of Sade’s No Ordinary Love. Urbandub also have a strong fan base throughout Southeast Asia with a recent tour in Singapore.
