About 300 Iraq-bound passengers have been stranded in Dubai since Friday after security workers shut down Baghdad airport's civilian terminal over a pay dispute.

"Passengers for two flights scheduled for Friday have been stranded in Dubai," said Lakiss SAA, the manager of Jupiter Air, which operates four weekly flights from Dubai to Baghdad.

Around 70 passengers were transiting through Dubai. Some passengers made their own arrangements while others were provided with accommodation by the airline.

"We are thankful to Dubai Government for providing transit visas for passengers who were stuck at Terminal 2 in Dubai airport after the cancellation of the flights," he said.

Lakiss said one Jupiter Air flight departed Dubai with 120 passengers on-board on June 24 but was not allowed to land at Baghdad airport.

"We were asked to go back but we did not have enough fuel and opted to land in Kuwait, passengers were not allowed to disembark.

"After a three-hour stop in Kuwait, the flight returned to Dubai. We did not operate our second flight the same day although passengers had reached the airport," he said.

"The stranded passengers are from the United States, Iraq, Germany, Qatar, Bahrain and South Africa," he said.
