ERBIL - Iraq and South Africa vowed to develop relations as they signed a cooperation agreement on Monday.

The agreement was signed by Iraqi Trade Minister Khairullah Hassan on behalf of the Iraqi government. A delegation headed by the Minister is also expected to visit the African country in the near future.

"The purpose of the agreement and the expected visit will be to develop trade relations, as well as political, cultural and social relations, between the two nations" the Iraqi trade Minister told AKnews.

Shamal Nouri, an economist, believed the signing of such agreements to build relations is "extremely important" for Iraq because Iraq "maintained relations only some countries with which it had joint interests"

"It is very important for Iraq to normalize relations with countries, in particular, those countries that have strong economic positions" said Nouri, "such relations will be in the interest of Iraq"
