TEHRAN - Iranian 2016 Olympic champion, Sohrab Moradi, set new World Records in Men’s 94kg division of 2017 Weightlifting World Championships with a total of 417kg. Returning to the international platform in sensational form on Sunday evening, Moradi stood on top of the podium at the Men’s 94kg weight category at the 2017 Weightlifting World Championships.

In the process, he set new World Records in the clean & jerk (233kg) and total (417kg). He improved the clean & jerk record, previously held by Polish athlete Simon Koletsky, by one kilogram and broke his own World Record in the Total by 4kg.

Farkhodbek Sobirov of Uzbekistan finished in second, and Aurimas Didzbalis of Lithuania finished in third overall in the same weight group.

Iran’s representative at 94kg, Seyed Ayoub Miri, managed to win two bronze medals in clean and jerk (214kg) and total (385).

Kianoush Rostami (85kg), another Rio Olympic gold medalist of Iran, failed to find a place on the podium though he bagged silver in snatch.

Iran’s Ali Miri, meanwhile, landed fifth in the same category as he lifted a total of 348 kilograms to occupy the seventh place overall.

The 2017 World Weightlifting Championships are being held in Anaheim, United States from 28 November to 5 December 2017.
