TEHRAN -- The Polycarbonate Unit of Khuzestan Petrochemical Complex, the first polycarbonate unit in the country, will come on stream by the end of the current Iranian year, falling on March 19, 2006, Masud Jamshidi, the managing director of the complex said on Wednesday.

He added that the unit has the production capacity of 25,000 tons per year.

Polycarbonate is a polymer that is used in auto-making, aircraft manufacturing, bullet-proof glass making, and medicinal industries, he said.

Jamshidi stated that presently, the U.S., Germany, and Japan are the only producers of this polymer in the world. Also in his remarks, he said that Khuzestan Petrochemical Complex is the first and the second producer of epoxy resin in the country and the Middle East respectively. "The complex has totally produced 6500 tons of epoxy resin since beginning of the current Iranian year on March 21, 2005."

He explained that the epoxy resin is used for producing industrial glues, paint-making, producing concrete pipes and flooring materials, as well as conveying oil.
