New Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi who was appointed by President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday met and conferred with Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Reza Sheibani Thursday, both emphasizing need for broader comprehensive cooperation.

Prime Minister Al-Halqi and Ambassador Sheibani in the meeting surveyed ways for expansion of relations in economic, commercial, scientific, medical and medicinal fields, according to the official Syrian news agency, SANA, reported the IRNA office in Damascus.

Iran accepted to provide the required facilities for the Syrian electricity power generators and the two sides also reached agreement on implementing a number of joint development plans during the meeting.

Also present in the meeting there was the Syrian Oil and Mineral Resources Minister Sulaiman al-Abbas.

Ambassador Sheibani also congratulated the new Syrian prime minister for the establishment of the new Syrian government and wished his cabinet success both in campaign against some world powers terrorist plots and in reconstruction of his war torn country.

He meanwhile ensured Prime Minister al-Halqi of Irans full support for his government in any field that his country would demand.
