Kut, Wasit - Wasit Provincial Council has signed a memorandum of understanding with an Iranian company to build four power stations with a total capacity of 500 MW says Council official Taha Hasan Abed.

Abed told AKnews that the chairman of the council Mahmoud Abdul Ridha Talal and his deputy Mahdi Ali Jaber al-Mussawi contracted with Tabdil Energy Company to set up the stations at a cost of $340 million USD (400 billion IQD).

"The company representative said the energy of each of these stations will be 125 MW. The stations are manufactured in Germany and they will be completely installed in a period of 30 months, but the first station will be installed within six months of signing the final contract with the company. "

Officials in the electricity sector in Wasit say the province actually needs 540 MW under normal circumstances and cannot achieve a quarter of that at present.
