Production of Logan or 'Tondar 90' cars are likely to be expedited in the coming month with the apparent narrowing of differences between French auto manufacturer Renault and Iranian auto part makers.
Expressing this, secretary of Iran' Auto Part Makers Association said that the giant French automaker and Iranian part manufacturers would step up cooperation to expedite the production of the budget cars which were earlier expected to overtake the currently popular Peugeot models in Iran's demanding auto market.
According to MNA, Mohammad Reza Najafi stated that Renault is one of the best auto companies in Europe and so 'it is too sensitive about the quality of its products'.
In line with this, the company has made Iranian auto part manufacturers improve the quality of their products to comply with global standards, he added.
Tondar 90 vehicles are to be manufactured with Iranian parts.
Najafi noted that manufacturing of the vehicles is currently moving slowly since some part makers have been unable to improve the quality.
There is no difference between Renault and Iranian part makers, he said, adding that if they improve the quality, the company is prepared to boost cooperation.
He predicted that over 50,000 Tondar 90 vehicles will be manufactured by Iranian auto manufacturers by the end of the current year to March 2008.
The French Logan whose name has been changed to Tondar 90 is Type B of the L-90 series of Renault automobiles that operate on 1.6-liter engines, 16 valves, and 107 horsepower.
Iran is one of the fastest growing auto markets in the region. Major carmakers Iran Khodro and Saipa manufacture a million cars a year.
The two carmakers are involved in the multibillion-euro L90 project with Renault, making it one of Iran's largest foreign investment ventures.
