TEHRAN -- The board of directors of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) on Saturday approved conducting the primary studies on eight oilfields in southern Iran, said Mohammad-Reza Moqaddam, the NIOC acting director for commissioning affairs.

The oilfields include Ahvaz, Paznan, Rag-Sefid, Toranj, Parsi, Gachsaran, Aghajari, and Mansuri, which are among the country's important oilfields.

He noted that some of the oil projects in these fields have been turned over to the domestic contractors and will be carried out on the buy-back basis.

With commissioning these oilfields, the capacity of the country's oil production will hit 5.8 million barrels per day, he indicated.
