TEHRAN - Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Mohammad-Reza Sheibani elaborated on Iran's participation in rebuilding Lebanon's war-torn areas after the end of Israel's 34-day offensive against that country in 2006.

In an interview with the Tehran-based Al-Alam News Network on Saturday, he referred to Iran's reconstruction efforts in Lebanon, saying that Iran would continue to offer its assistance to Lebanon's development and reconstruction projects.

Sheibani stated that Iran has already completed various construction projects throughout Lebanon including 136 educational centers, 62 religious sites, 19 medical centers, 14 bridges, as well as 108 electricity supply projects, and 150 development plans in rural regions.

"Iran has also undertaken the reconstruction of 375 kilometers of damaged highways and roads in Lebanon - 200 kilometers of which is now completed," he noted.

Iran and Lebanon have close and growing relations, Sheibani said, adding that last year's visit of Lebanese President Michel Suleiman to Iran and thereafter the visit of Iranian Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mohammad Saeidikia to Lebanon greatly helped the two countries reinforce their ties.
