Doha: This Saturday InterContinental Doha will encourage both employees and guests to mark Earth Hour in various ways. Earth Hour started in 2007 in Australia when 2.2 million houses and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to stand against climate change. In 2009, only 2 years after its inception, 4,000 cities in 88 countries worldwide marked Earth Hour with tens of millions of businesses and households taking part.

The InterContinental Doha will mark Earth Hour by switching off all nonessential lighting from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. All other lighting in the hotel will be dimmed to low level to save energy. At the same time a letter has been sent to all hotel guests encouraging them to leave their rooms with the lights off during the hour and to congregate in other areas of the hotel. In the employee accommodation all lights will be switched off for one hour and the employees have been invited to meet in a communal area outside and mark their support with the lighting of candles.

Also, Holiday Villa Hotel & Residence City Centre Doha will take part in Earth Hour where nonessential lights will be turned off in support of the Earth Hour to take place on March 27, 2010 at 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

"For a property with 734 rooms we could definitely show our support. It is important to raise awareness in the current global warming and climate change and in making a stand for the Climate Change, we will take part in the Earth Hour as part of the hotel Going Green Campaign, we encourage guests and staff to also take part" said Joey Chen, GM of Holiday Villa.
