Dubai The Indian High School, Dubai, retained the overall championship trophy in the Indian High School Sports Festival contested by 29 schools in five disciplines for boys and girls under-15 held at the school’s campus.

The hosts won the boys and girls basketball titles, girls badminton title and the table tennis boys crown. They also finished runners-up in girls table tennis and boys badminton events. The Indian High School B team also finished runners-up in the basketball boys event.

Speaking to Gulf News, Dr Tapan Das, the director of physical education of the Indian High School, said: “Our consistent performance is mainly due to regular training and the facilities for the students to excel in almost all the disciplines inside the school campus.”

The week-long festival was keenly fought with Indian High School girls basketball team remaining unbeaten throughout the event. They beat Winchester 31-10. Our Own High School Dubai 44-33, Delhi Private School Sharjah 28-22. In the last match they beat the Millennium School Dubai 18-14. Our Own High School finshed runners-up. The star behind Indian High School’s victory was Rachana Pillamari, who bagged the most promising player award.

The Indian High School fielded A and B teams.

In football, Dubai Modern School stamped their authority while in volleyball the Emirates National School Sharjah won the boys title and Delhi Private School, Dubai took top honours in the girls event.

Badminton: Winner (Girls): The Indian High School, Dubai; Runners-up: Delhi Private School, Sharjah; Most promising player: Sanjan Venkatesh (THIS).
