Karbala - A local company in Karbala on Thursday embarked on implementing a project to maintain the oldest drinking water pipeline in the holy city at a cost of 1.1 billion Iraqi dinars (ID), equal to $984,000, according to the governor of Karbala.
"Some bad parts within the line that links Karbala to Ayn al-Tamr district, (85 km) west of the province, will be replaced," Oqeil al-Khazaali told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, adding the project will take up to six months to finish.
"The new pipelines will be ductile and with a diameter of 600 millimeters," he said.
The Shiite province of Karbala lies 110 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
