Pakistan's new Ambassador-designate to UAE, Air Marshal (Retd) Syed Qaiser Hussein, arrived here Monday night.
He was received at Abu Dhabi International Airport by the Charge d'Affaires at the embassy, Consul General Amanullah Larik and other senior embassy officials.
Yousuf Saigal, Minister at the Protocol Department of the UAE Foreign Ministry, was also present to receive the new Pakistani ambassador. Born on October 28, 1948 Hussein holds BSc (Hons) and MSc (Defence and Strategic Studies) degrees.
After joining the Pakistan Air Force in 1969, Hussein served at various commands and staff positions, including Member Directing Staff at the National Defence College, Base Commander a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Air Base, Inspector General Air Force, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff and Vice Chief of Air Staff.
Hussein is also familiar with UAE as in the past he twice served in the UAE Armed Forces on deputation from March 1974 to May 1976 and from February 1989 to September 1991.
Air Marshal (Retd) Hussein is a recipient of two of Pakistan's highest national awards Hilal-e-Imtiaz (military) and Tamgh-e-Basalat.
Hussein succeeds Major Gen (retired) Salimullah, who completed his three-year tenure as the ambassador and relinquished duties on June 30 this year. Salimullah was conferred the Order of Independence by the UAE along with outgoing Indian ambassador K.C. Singh.
