KUWAIT: More than 300 students of both genders participated on the Q8 Model United Nations Conference held at the Rotana Al-Manshar Hotel in Fahaheel. Students from various countries like Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Pakistan, and others participated in this conference, which was the first of its kind ever to be held. The conference was organised by two Kuwaiti students Nouriya Al-Saqer and Sarah Al-Mizeini, and sponsored by Mohammed Jasem Al-Marzouq.
The opening session was held on Wednesday evening, and will conclude on Saturday (today). All students participating in this conference were divided into groups comprising four students. Each group represented a country of the member countries of the UN, and one student from each, spoke on behalf of their group. Israel, being the only exception, as only one student represented the country.
All students representing their groups first addressed a welcome speech, and then spoke about their respective countries, their main issues and problems. After each student addressed his speech, the rest were then allowed to contribute his or her views and comments. The speech delivered by the Iraqi student attracted the most comments from representatives of other countries, who all expressed their unanimous support in helping Iraq in whatever way they could.
The Israeli representative expressed his country's desire for peace, but refused to acknowledge the existence of a Palestinian government led by Hamas. He received the most comments from representatives of all Arab countries, who vociferously opposed his views, and described them as acts of aggression rather than peace. The Iranian representative described the US as the greatest satanic country.
All students actively participated in this conference where several important issues were discussed, and all defended their respective countries' views as if they were their own. The conference was conducted very professionally, where all students had excellent oratory skills, and also discussed and presented all their views and ideas professionally with great enthusiasm. All in all it was great teamwork, with excellent co-operation from all the representatives.
