ABU DHABI, 12 Sep, 05 (WAM) - The Human Development Report2005 has rated UAE 41st worldwide and second in the Arab Worldin Human Development Index (HDI) among 177 countries as per health,education and income level.

The report, launched in the UAE on Sunday by Minister of Economyand Planning Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi, has classified the UAEamong countries of "high human development." The UAE has riseneight ranks on the HDI since last year. The report pointed outthat for the UAE, there was a significant increase in the lifeexpectancy estimate from 74.6 per cent in 2002 to 78 per centin 2003, reports in the UAE's dailies said.

There was a higher rate in overall school enrollment from 68per cent to 74 per cent.

"The UAE has been rated 41st worldwide and second in the ArabWorld as compared to 49th and 4th the previous year, an outstandingperformance to be added to it records of achievements," she said.

The gap between the UAE and the developed countries seems smallto bridge, and with the help of sound planning, perfect organisationand high efforts, the UAE will stride fast to join the club.

Sheikha Lubna remarked that on the one hand, the ministry isstriving to integrate well UAE's economy in the internationaleconomy and increase the private sector participation in globaltrade and developmental projects.

On the other hand, the ministry is actively engaged in the developmentof its planning and statistical works to meet global changes,reactivation of the Central Committee of Statistics and executionof census of population, housing and establishments which iscurrently under the field phase.

The report is being launched few days before the UN Summit of2005, which will witness the largest gathering of leaders ofthe globe to review progress towards the Millennium DevelopmentGoals (MDGs).
