Honeywell Awarded Automation/Control System Contract For Pearl GTL Project

Qatar Shell GTL on 14 August selected Honeywell to design and implement the integrated process automation and control system for the Pearl GTL project. Honeywell said it would supply Qatar Shell GTL with solutions to enable a smooth start-up and safe and reliable operations of the venture. In June last year, Qatar Shell GTL awarded Honeywell a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract to conduct preliminary engineering for process automation/control system works at the site.

At the end of July this year, Qatar Petroleum and Shell announced the launch of the $10bn integrated Pearl GTL project (MEES, 31 July). It includes gas development in the North Field, transporting and processing the gas to extract NGLs and ethane and the conversion of the remaining gas into clean petroleum products at what will be the world’s largest integrated GTL complex in Ras Laffan. Upstream, some 1.6bn cfd of wellhead gas will be produced from the North Field and transported and processed to produce approximately 120,000 boe/d of condensate, LPG and ethane. Downstream, dry gas will be used as feedstock for the onshore GTL complex which will manufacture an additional 140,000 b/d of liquid products. The Pearl complex will consist of two 70,000 b/d GTL trains and associated facilities.

Wellhead Contract For J Ray McDermott

J Ray McDermott Eastern Hemisphere announced on 16 August that it had signed a contract with Qatar Shell GTL to engineer, construct, transport, install hook-up and pre-commission two wellhead platforms in the North Field. Front-end engineering and design (FEED) verification and detailed engineering design on the topsides is under way, and construction will begin later this month. Each platform, Pearl 1 and Pearl 2, weighs around 3,600 tons.
