MUSCAT -- A three day exhibition of honey products was inaugurated at Lulu Hypermarket in Bausher yesterday by Dr Faud Jafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth. The exhibition, which is held in Oman for the first time, was aimed at promoting Omani beekeepers, their honey and honey products. The exhibition was also aimed at encouraging Omanis involved in the traditional beekeeping business to use modern technologies, market and package their products in such a way that it will be attractive to both domestic and international buyers. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sajwani said that this exhibition is one of several measures initiated by the government to promote Omani honey producers to interact directly with the customers, understand their preferences and package their products accordingly.
According to Mohammed F al Baloshi, director, agriculture and livestock marketing, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth, said that Omani honey is different and the government will help producers to market their products. Dr Hassan Talib al Lawati, phd, honey bee science and member of apitherapy, said, "We started this exhibition for the first time with 60 beekeepers and plan to organise one in Salalah in August. We will conduct an exhibition every year as it will help unknown beekeepers with a platform to promote their products, interact with each other and be updated about the latest technology."
