Abu Dhabi, 18th Apr. 2014 (WAM) -- The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research implemented in its headquarters in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (17/4/2014) the yearly emergency drill in the "International Tower", previously the "Government Communication Department".

The Ministry stressed the importance of participation for the employees in the "Emergency Response Plan" after providing them with detailed instructions in order to maintain their security and safety.

The Ministry explained that the successful evacuation of buildings depends largely on prompt and correct decisions and immediate actions of the occupants during the first minute of the incident; this emergency response plan has been prepared for the "International Tower" with aim of ensuring the safe and efficient evacuation of all occupants in the event of an emergency. The plan's effectiveness is based on the collective effort of residents and emergency response team.

The response plan began by simulating an emergency case, where fire alarms sounded from the main panel in the security control room, the "assumed" affected floor was evacuated with one floor above and one below in one minute, after (6) minutes the entire building was evacuated with all occupants following the public guidance systems instructions and the fire supervisor?s instructions at the time of evacuation.

The fire supervisors were given the responsibility of directing the persons in their offices to the stairwells available to evacuate the building, the evacuation plan trains all occupants and visitors in case of an emergency to use the stairs in an orderly manner, and not using elevators.
