MUSCAT -- Hi FM and Hala FM are the first privately-owned radio stations to hit the airwaves of the Sultanate in 2007. Promising to be different, both stations promised to talk less and play more of 'today's best music' (Hi FM) and 'Your Arabic mood' (Hala FM). To further encourage listeners to participate and respond, a competition was launched on March 22 in Muscat city, with a big cash prize as the reward.

Listeners get a chance to enter the competition by texting the studio and answering a few questions asked via SMS to enter the big draw. The winners drawn will be announced every Saturday all through April. The first draw took place on March 29. The lucky winner is Houishel Amer Houishel al Salehi and the second winner, announced on April 5 is Abdullah Saleh al Abri.

The guest of honour for the ceremony was His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tareq al Said who handed the winners a cheque of $4,000 each. Maqbool Hameed Mohammed al Saleh, Chairman, Hi FM and Hala FM, said, "The response to our contest was overwhelming. We are delighted that, in a relatively short span of time, these channels have made such a huge impact on the listeners."
