Ajman, Apr 04th, 2010 (WAM)--As part of the visiting consultants programme that is implemented by the Ministry of Health, Khalifa Hospital in Ajman made lots of major surgical operations during the past two weeks for rare cases by international medical experts and consultants. This was stated by Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, Director of Ajman Medical Zone and Sheikh Khelifa Hospital in Ajman.
He added: "The hospital continuously receives experts and foreign consultants to implement the programme of various doctors in various medical specialties. Following the instructions of His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Health, we assure the importance of benefiting from international expertise through training and improving the national medical human resources and achieving the patients satisfaction". His Excellency the Minister of Health visited some sections of Khalifa Hospital in Ajman mid last week as part of his tour to inspect health hospitals and centers in the northern emirates. The visit included Khorfakkan hospital and health center. He stressed the importance of improving the skills of national medical resources through benefiting from international expertise and identifying the latest therapeutic interventions and surgical applications, applying them on patients in the country and reducing treatment abroad. Hanif was accompanied by Sheikh Mohamed bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Medical Zone, Dr. Tawfiq bin Khoja, Director General-Executive Office for GCC Health Ministers Council and Dr. Mahmoud Fikri, Executive Director for Health Policies at the Ministry of Health. The minister emphasised that the Ministry considers the requirements of the health services in the northern emirates and directs to achieve customer satisfaction in all the hospitals and centres of the ministry for the purpose of providing health and medical care for all patients in all the medical zones. In the same context, Hamad Taryam Omran Al Shamsi, mentioned that Professor Phillippe Wicart, Pediatric Orthopedist from Saint Vincent de Paul in Paris-France, examined and operated various difficult cases at Khalifa Hospital in Ajman. He made 7 operations for children suffering from congenital defects in the bones and examined 83 cases and provided them treatment. The consultant also discussed with Khalifa Hospitals staff the developments in this area. Professor Yahia Mohammad Salah, Opthalmologist and Cornia Surgeon in Cairo University, Egypt and Specialist in Cataract and Lens Replacement, performed 22 operations for UAE patients by using the Phaco technology that relies on ultrasound to break up the contents of the lens and withdraw vacuum. The operation is done by a small incision of not more than 2mm in 10 minutes. The consultant examined 59 cases that were suffering from various eye diseases. Al Shamsi explained that Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman proved its capacity in medical and surgical treatment. The hospital is gaining a good reputation in the UAE referring to the fact that the hospital receives patients from the emirate of Ajman and those transferred from other emirates as well. Sheikh Khelifa Hospital receives 1000 patients daily including emergency cases and outpatient clinics as well as resident patients. The hospital also makes between 15 to 20 operations a day as well as 15 daily birth operations. It is worth mentioning to know that Khelifa Hospital in Ajman has a maximum capacity of 210 beds and an occupation of 80%. The Director of Khalifa Hospital in Ajman described the success of the hospital as a model of full cooperation between the administrative and technical team which reflected the level of technical performance and has become significant for both patients and visitors. The latest surveys conducted by the hospitals quality assurance department assure that patients and visitors satisfaction reached 90%. The hospital also became an important transformative advanced centre in orthopedic surgery, general surgery and endoscopic surgery. According to Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, the hospital operated around 61 knee joint artificial replacement operations, 139 high complex backbone operations such as spinal cord curvature and narrow spinal canal since the beginning of the year. The hospital also began using the latest technologies since 1992 February in the endoscopy field. It made 2000 gallbladder operations by using surgical abdominal endoscopy.
