ABU DHABI, 14th November, 2013 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, today officially launched MathAlive!, the Raytheon Company?s immersive math and science education exhibition, at the Abu Dhabi Science Festival.
MathAlive! is a 465 square meter (5,000 square feet) dual-language travelling education exhibition, designed to bring to life the "real" maths behind the things young people love most: video games, sports, robotics and more, creating interactive and immersive experiences that help spark a lasting interest in maths and science in school, college and, ultimately, the workplace. "Bringing MathAlive! to the Middle East reinforces Raytheon?s long-term commitment to the region," said William H. Swanson, Chairman and CEO of the Raytheon Company. "With our nearly 50 years of building relationships in the region, we know that maths education is a priority. Our new MathAlive! exhibit is specifically designed and built for the Middle East and includes elements relevant to the region?s young students. We hope that it inspires countless students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths."MathAlive! is embarking on a five-year tour of the Gulf region, stopping at multiple venues to provide direct support for the successful growth and development of the Middle East?s technology industrial base. It contains exciting educational content relating to mathematics at work around the world, including historical achievements of Gulf region mathematicians and scholars, as well as the work of those who will shape the future of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The initiative is a core component of Raytheon?s MathMovesU programme, which is designed to inspire students to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and to encourage the pursuit of STEM careers, critical to global innovation and economic growth. MathAlive! expands the portfolio of science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related education programmes supported by Raytheon in the Middle East, including, an Engineering Master?s degree programme with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and Johns Hopkins University, support for the HCT events, Education without Borders and Festival of Thinkers, leadership development programmes in partnership with Khalifa University in the U.A.E. and the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission, and a series of technology symposia at King Saud University in Riyadh, as well as education workshops with HCT in the U.A.E..
