Ras Laffan - The Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah yesterday presided over the opening of the Gulf Warehousing Company's new state-of-the-art multi-user warehouse facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
The facility built on a 16,000 square metre plot area consists of a racking system with selective and double deep racking zones to provide over 33,000 pallet positions and an open covered storage.
Abdullah bin Hamad told reporters on the sidelines of the opening celebration of the facility that Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) can look forward to a lot of opportunities in Ras Laffan Industrial City because of the concentration of huge projects in this one of the world's biggest energy cities.
GWC, a public listed company boasts similar facilities including in Doha Industrial Area, Mesaieed Industrial City providing logistics services throughout the country.
Abdullah bin Hamad said such facilities are required to provide professional and high quality services to convince operating companies in the area to avail of its services since many companies prefer to concentrate on the core businesses and outsource their logistics services.
As for the congestions in Ras Laffan Industrial City's roads, he said by 2012 this congestion because most of the projects currently under construction will be operational by then.
He said construction of new roads in the area is currently ongoing and that new gates into the city will also be open to reduce congestions as these are caused by huge projects currently under construction.
GWC Chairman, Faisal bin Mohammed bin Ghanim Al Sulaiti said the company was currently undertaking and in the process of completing the construction of its Logistics Village Qatar totaling an area of one million square meter near Al Wukair.
