KARBALA: The Council of Ministers has allocated 10 billion dinars to develop the electricity grid in Karbala, chairman of the reconstruction and strategic planning committee of the Karbala council said on Tuesday.
"The amount will be used in buying new generators and replacing current electricity grid with new one," Abbas Nasser Hassani told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
"The allocation came after a meeting between Chairman of the Karbala Council, Mohammad Hamid al-Moussawi, and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki yesterday (June 21) in Baghdad," he noted.
A massive demonstration was staged in Karbala against electricity shortages in the province.
Karbala is 110 km southwest of Baghdad.
