Bilateral trade, economic and tourism ties will be expanded between Iran's Golestan and Turkish Samsun provinces.

The remark was made by the director general of the Golestan province's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Qorban Abbassi, who have recently paid a visit to Turkey at the invitation of Governor General of Samsun province Huseyin Aksoy, IRNA reported on Saturday.

He said an agreement on the expansion of bilateral economic and commercial ties was signed between the officials of the two provinces.

Based on the agreement, cooperation between the provinces of Golestan and Samsun will be enhanced in various fields of agriculture, heavy machines and tourism, he said, pointing out that grounds will be prepared to attract foreign investment for the two provinces.

Abbasi added the officials of both provinces are familiar with each other's vast potentials.

He said Golestan and Samsun provinces share a number of commonalities in various fields including tourism, adding grounds were prepared for creating an ecotourism boom in the two provinces.

Golestan and Samsun provinces can raise agro transactions, he said.

He referred to establishing tourism offices in the general governorate of the two provinces, holding tourism exhibitions and launching a joint internet website as the strategies which can be adopted to expand cooperation.

Iran and Turkey have in recent years increased their cooperation in various fields of economy, security, trade, education, energy and culture.

The two sides have exchanged several politico-economic delegations in the recent months.

Earlier, Turkish President Abdullah Gul in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined the need to remove obstacles to further expansion of economic ties with Iran and boost trade cooperation between the two countries.

"The level of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is not appropriate in view of the age-old ties between the two nations and we should remove the obstacles to the development of mutual cooperation between Iran and Turkey," Gul said at the time.
