THE Census Administration of the Ministry of National Economy is today launching the first GIS training course for data technicians who will participate in the listing of buildings and establishments for the 2010 census. The training course, held in co-operation with the ESRI Muscat, will cover key topics relating to GIS concepts and techniques. It will introduce the participants to all the tools necessary to perform their daily tasks.
In all, three groups of participants of 15 trainees each will attend the training programme, which concludes on August 5. The trainees will then be assigned to different technical offices throughout the Sultanate ahead of the survey of buildings and establishments. The course has been organised in line with the Census Administration's training policy aimed at building the human resource capabilities of its census staff. The participants will be trained to use GIS applications on handheld devices for data collection in all the phases of the census.
