ABU DHABI, 29th July 2013 (WAM) -- The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) today said it has concluded a training course on strategic planning in the civil aviation industry in Cali, Colombia, for 50 specialists representing different member states of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC).
The 3-day course, held from 1st - 4th July, was designed and drafted by GCAA's Executive Director Strategy & International Affairs, Laila Ali bin Hareb Al Muhairi, within the framework of implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between GCAA and LACAC for sharing experiences, according to GCAA's press release. It was delivered by Salem Al Shamsi, Manager External Affairs, and Shahid Qadeer, Senior Specialist, Strategy & Performance Management, GCAA. The course covered all aspects related to strategic planning concepts in general, and the application of appropriate tools and techniques in driving an aviation regulatory organisation through a complex and continually changing environment, in particular. The course saw the participation of representatives of civil aviation authorities of 11 Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay. The course started with a presentation about the impact of globalisation on strategic planning and introduced planning requirements, business strategy development mechanisms, tools and techniques required for planning and decision making, including methods of measuring and managing expectation, environment analysis, strategy implementation steps and target oriented management. During the course, participants learned about various methods for planning and implementing business strategies through modeling the strategic planning processes. The Director General of GCAA, Saif Al Suwaidi, said, "The participation of GCAA in this course in Latin America reflects the role of the UAE in civil aviation worldwide and the trust of global and regional civil aviation authorities and organisations in the UAE. I am very proud that the UAE is able to provide such high level courses developed by UAE national experts. Laila Ali Bin Hareb Al Muhairi commented, "The strong participation in the course by CEOs and directors of civil aviation authorities, airport operators and air traffic service providers in Latin America indicates their interest in benefiting from the UAE's experience in strategic planning and transferring such experience to their countries. Such courses and seminars organised by GCAA in conjunction with regional and international organizations confirm GCAA's commitment to strengthening relations with its counterparts around the world, which would enhance and promote the position of the UAE in the global civil aviation industry," she added. "Through the bilateral cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding signed with several civil aviation authorities around the world, the GCAA is aiming at sharing experiences and training, which will help discovering new fields that can enhance the reputation of GCAA and expand its role in civil aviation worldwide."
