MUSCAT -- Galfar Engineering and Contracting SAOG successfully concluded the 'My Life, My Responsibility' road safety campaign for its employees at an event held in their Al Khoudh plant workshop recently in presence of Dr Saleh Khalfan Md al Barashedi from Ministry of Religious Affairs and Major Abdullah al Abri from Royal Oman Police.

Dr Hans Erlings, Galfar CEO, JK Salvi, Vice-President (BDandT), TG Philip, Vice-President (QHSE), Abdullah al Fannah al Araimi, Vice -President (HR), Abdul Rahiman, Vice-President (Plant), staff and employees of the company attended the event.

Introducing the guest speakers, Abdul Rahiman, Vice-President (Plant) of Galfar said the campaign was aimed at reducing road traffic accidents in collaboration with government and non-government agencies in the Sultanate. He said the campaign carried out in three languages -- Arabic, Hindi and English -- focused directly on this aspect so as to raise the awareness levels among the vehicle drivers at Galfar.

Speaking on the occasion, Rashid bin Homoud al Sawafi, Road Safety Campaign Co-ordinator at Galfar, said: "We felt a great responsibility towards supporting the efforts exerted by our government to achieve success in reducing road traffic accidents through such awareness campaigns by including all members of the community."

The successful annual road safety campaign, in its third year, emphasised on the cause of road safety through activities like conduct of special drivers' forum with participation of project managers to discuss and address driver concerns; detailed inspections and maintenance of all vehicles; practical sessions for drivers regarding carrying out vehicle checks daily; vehicle and terrain specific driver training with an emphasis on safe condition and use of brakes and gears; safety at work during summer and Ramadan; awareness sessions among drivers on the importance of seat belts through discussions, video shows and use of roll over simulator.
