Since 1987, the governorate of Gafsa has benefited from 2708 million dinars aiming to embellishing the city and carrying out infrastructure projects, writes the Arabic language newspaper "Assabah" in its March 2, 2010 issue.
Major infrastructure projects have helped to link the governorate of Gafsa with different Tunisian cities, the international airport of Gafsa-Ksar, the development of 340km of roads, the construction of 3 bridges in addition to the development and asphalting of 550 km of rural tracks.
Public investment in the governorate of Gafsa also succeeded through a series of projects in mobilizing and operating 77% of available water resources in the region.
46 million dinars were dedicated to the integrated development project in the mining area of Gafsa. Another project was also dedicated to the water management of the southern oases which led to the setting up of 8 oasis over 3,500 hectares.
At a social level, the governorate of Gafsa benefited from a wide range of projects such as the University of Gafsa, a university campus which comprises 8 university institutions , as well as the extension of Gafsa's regional hospital.
The cultural sector has not been spared, especially with the creation of a regional radio station, a cultural complex with 8 public libraries, an archaeological museum and the creation of three outdoor theaters, and two regional academies of music and a drama center.
