DOHA: The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) launched a free wireless Internet access service for OPD patients at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) yesterday.

Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, HMC Managing Director, inaugurated the new service at the main OPD building. Nagi Al Mannai, Assistant Executive Director, HGH, Mohamed Mubarak Al Noaimi, Director Marketing and Public Relations, and a host of HMC's leading administrators were present on the occasion.

According to Abdulla Al Emadi, Assistant Executive Director, Health Information Systems (HIS), the new service, executed by the HIS's IT technicians, enables all outpatients and their attendants free Internet access. E-mail, web surfing and other online services are also available.

"Wireless Internet services are currently available in all waiting areas of the four stories of HGH outpatient clinics, the male kidney dialysis unit, and the hospital's special treatment ward on the third floor, in addition to the Women's Hospital delivery rooms," said Al Emadi, pointing out that the launch of the service comes as a part of a project that envisages making such a service accessible at all of HMC's facilities.

Ibrahim Al Emadi, the Administrator of HGH's Outpatient Clinics, said the clinics include 103 examination rooms and all morning and afternoon visitors may benefit from this free service while waiting for their turn to see the doctor.

The launch of the service is a part of HMC's strategy to provide quality services to various customers in clinical fields and other relevant areas.
