Abu Dhabi: A four-year-old Indian boy had a miraculous escape after falling from the balcony of his third-floor apartment on Wednesday morning.

Mohammad Sahad fell onto a car parked close to the building, which cushioned the fall, his uncle told Gulf News.

"He was taken to the hospital and doctors said his condition is stable now," said Abdul Kayoom.

The child's family, hailing from Kannur district in the southern Indian state of Kerala, is living in an apartment near Madinath Zayed Shopping Centre in Abu Dhabi.

The accident happened between 11 am and noon when the boy's mother went to the bathroom, according to the uncle.

"He was playing in the dining hall but a door to the balcony was half opened."

The mother could not find the son when she came back and searched the entire apartment, he said.

"She informed her husband and other family members who rushed to the apartment."

Meanwhile, a crowd gathered outside the building. The neighbours identified the boy and informed the family, he said.

Abu Dhabi police received a call around 12.30 in the afternoon and ambulances were dispatched to the scene immediately, Major Mohammad Al Ansari, Head of Ambulance section at Abu Dhabi police told Gulf News.

The boy suffered from head injury, but no interior bleeding or head trauma was seen, he said.

"In fact, he even chatted with our rescue team and everyone else as he was taken to the hospital," he said.

The boy was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Shaikh Khalifa Medical City and would undergo a thorough check-up before being discharged, added the official.

Why do you think there is an increase in child related accidents? Are homes these days child-friendly? Have parents become too busy to take care of their children?
