ERBIL, March 8 (AKnews) - The third international auto and auto parts exhibition was opened in Erbil city's International Expos space today.

The four-day fair brings together 60 auto makers from 18 countries around the world where they will showcase their new cars for 2012.

The exhibition's opening ceremony was attended by Erbil Governor Nawzad Hadi and foreign diplomats and officials.

Hadi said: "Over the past few years, one of the important trades has been the auto business... therefore the opening of the auto and parts exhibition is vital for the region.

"The importing of these car into Kurdistan is very important, but what's more important is that these companies come to Kurdistan to produce these cars or spare parts here."

The auto companies come from the Czech Republic, Germany, the USA, Canada, France, Japan, Sweden, South Korea, the UK, Jordan, the UAE, Turkey, Serbia, Lebanon, Iran, Finland.

Local companies from the Kurdistan Region are also participating in the expo.

Erbil is set to host 11 international expos this year, including the city's first education exhibition. Four more exhibitions may also take place in 2012.
