Sushma Swaraj, former foreign minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart, passed away at 67 after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday evening.

Earlier on Tuesday, Swaraj was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

Swaraj was the most prominent female leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and she chose not to contest the recently held Parliamentary elections on account of ill health.

Swaraj last tweeted on Tuesday afternoon reacting to Narendra Modi’s move on Kashmir. She tweeted: “@narendramodi ji - Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime.”

Swaraj was extremely popular among the Indian expats all over the world for humanising the Indian external ministry and reaching out to the expats personally via Twitter in case of any trouble.
