ABU DHABI, March 16th 2010: Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) has received an invitation from Speaker of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) Per Westerberg as part of efforts to further promote relations between the two countries.
The invitation was delivered at a meeting today by Swedish Ambassador to the UAE Bruno Beijer to FNC Secretary General Dr Mohammed Salim Al-Mazrouie. In February, Westerberg led a delegation to Abu Dhabi where he held discussions with Ghurair on ways to promote relations between the UAE and Sweden. Meanwhile, First Deputy Speaker of FNC Ahmed Shabeeb Al-Dhaheri received a group of students from John Hopkins University, currently on a visit to the UAE. At the meeting, Al-Dhaheri explained to the students the issue of the three UAE islands which are still under Iranian occupation. He stressed the determination of the UAE to regain control over the island though direct dialogue or through referring the issue to international courts.
