A memorandum of understanding was signed yesterday to upgrade the Ras Hayyan fishing port.

Agriculture and Marine Resources Under-Secretary Dr Nabil Mohammed Abul Fattah signed the deal with Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Ahmed Al Ammadi.

Under the deal, Diyar Al Muharraq will conduct a study into the development of the port, including a maritime refuelling station, a fish market, a jetty for tourism boats and other facilities.

The agreement is part of a plan to engage the private sector in the agriculture and marine resources sectors.

The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry runs 11 fishing ports countrywide.
