Dubai: The first train for the Dubai Metro is expected to be delivered to Dubai in March next year while the remaining 43 trains will be delivered in the last quarter of 2008.

The metro operation will start in September 2009. The Rail Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday announced that the manufacturing of trains for the Dubai Metro is well on schedule.

With a total of five cars, each train will be approximately 85 metres long, 2.78 metres wide and 3.86 metres high.

Adnan Al Hammadi, Director of Construction, Rail Agency, said: "The months of June and July 2007 involved a busy testing schedule for the train's equipment."

Most of the equipment underwent First Article Inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests in their respective premises in Japan and Europe.

According to the RTA, the first two trains are being manufactured in the Kinki Sharyo factory and are progressing according to the manufacturing schedule.
