MUSCAT -- The first manufacturing facility to set up operations in Freezone Sohar has formally come on stream, the free zone authority said in a press statement yesterday. Al Ma Cabrol LLC, an engineering fabrication unit, announced the despatch of its first consignment of steel cable reels for a well-known Omani cable manufacturer. Freezone Sohar hailed the development as a milestone that would herald the launch of similar facilities at the sprawling special economic zone adjoining the Port of Sohar.
Al Ma Cabrol, part of the Cabrol Group, began construction work on its plant in May 2012. Amit Shah, Director, commented: "It is a proud moment not only for those of us at Al Ma Cabrol, but also Freezone Sohar. This milestone, within a year of the start of construction, could not have been possible without the support of Freezone Sohar. The Authority had extended all possible assistance to us from the outset, which augurs well for the future success of the free zone."
Sohar's strategic location at the crosswords of sea lanes serving the eastern and western markets is ideal for investors looking to tap these huge consumer markets, said Shah. "As a foreign investor, we are glad we decided to go ahead and invest in Sohar Freezone. Along this journey, everyone has met with our expectations: banks, regulatory authorities, contractors, and others. We also welcome the fact that all of the commitments made by the authorities here were fulfilled in time, thereby enabling us to achieve this milestone within a short span of time," he added.
