DOHA - The General Directorate of Civil Defence (CD) conducted a fire drill at Ezdan Hotel in the Dafna district on Monday. The scenario of the mock fire drill was supervised by Staff Brigadier Abdullah Muhammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of CD.
Civil Defence's Director General clarified that conducting the mock fire drill operations at high rising buildings aims to improve the expertise and proficiency of staff. As part of these efforts, the CD also trains the staff of various organisations on how to face disasters, how to deal with emergency conditions and evacuation procedures that have to be followed at accident sites. Staff Brig. Al Suwaidi also thanked the hotel's management and authorities for cooperating with the CD in raising the standard of consciousness on safety and protection.
The scenario started by breaking out a mock fire in the sixth floor of the hotel and the central operations command of CD was informed. The rescue, fire fighting and rapid action squad of Civil Defence rushed towards the accident site when an emergency call was received. Extinguishing of the fire started and it was brought under control before spreading to other floors of the hotel which has 39 floors.
The search for the missing people also started on the spot and the rescue team successfully rescued an individual and was taken to the ambulance. Members of the Traffic and Patrolling Department were there to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Lieutenant Muhammed Al Qahtani, Evacuation Officer stated that the mock fire drill successfully achieved its goal and the rescue and fire fighting team controlled the fire in a short period. He also cited the high standard of cooperation shown by the hotel officials.
