KUWAIT: The police tackles a variety of problems and conflicts. It is also normal procedure to erect check points at roads or bus stops. Previously, policemen used integrated database machines that were installed in police patrol vehicles. They would enter the civil identification number of an individual to examine background information and criminal reports.

Sometimes, these machines like others, experienced technical glitches or stopped functioning, making the search procedure complicated or cumbersome. The Ministry of Interior has devised better equipment that can perform efficient identity check - the fingerprint machine.

Currently, these machines have been installed at some police patrol vehicles of Hawally governorate. A policeman, who has used the new tool, asserted that the machine was far superior to many others he has used in the past. "I'm really glad to use this newly installed machine. It's much easier to deal with, and it's quite chunky.

The person only has to provide fingerprint and we can receive all information immediately. So even if he or she forgets and loses their identification card, we will be able to identify him or her," a policeman told the Kuwait Times.

The new machine is used for expatriates only, especially when checking for residence permits' legality. The Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Col Mohammad Hashim Al-Saber did not elaborate more about the machine to Kuwait Times. His only comment was, "We will apply it shortly.
