Bollywood’s ace multi-tasker Farhan Akhtar can sing, act, direct — and promises to give you a bundle of “happy memories” when he performs at the Dubai Music Week’s Bollywood night on Saturday.
Artists, including top music composer Pritam, Abu Dhabi-based singer Benny Dayal of Batameez Dil fame, Neeti Mohan and Arjit Singh, will help him on what they hope is a memorable evening. Naturally, Akhtar, who made his acting debut with Rock On!! in 2008, will include songs such as Sindbad The Sailor and Socha Hai from his hit film, which traced the lives of friends who unite to form a band but disband when differences crop up.
“It was a film about a band and singing those songs made it real for the viewer,” said Akthar in a succinct e-mail interview when asked if it was fair that his fans always associate him with his first film. He describes his personal taste in music as “diverse” and is thrilled that there’s a re-emergence of band culture in India. Akhtar, 39, formed a nine-member band called Farhan Live earlier this year and has toured several colleges across India and performed at Goa’s annual carnival.
“Films have always had music so it’s not like they elbowed into an already thriving indie music scene. I’m just glad today there is a reemergence of band culture and that a lot of them, apart from being good, are also doing well,” said Akhtar.
