Abu Dhabi, 12 Dec. 2011 (WAM) The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) today released its new guide on radiation safety, inviting the public to review and comment on it.
The draft Radiation Safety Guide (FANR-RG-007) is aimed at helping licensees who possess, use, manufacture, handle, store, transport or dispose of Regulated Material to understand and comply with the Authoritys regulations. This document provides guidance for FANR-REG-24, Basic Safety Standards for Facilities and Activities involving Ionising Radiation other than in Nuclear Facilities. Both documents can be found on the Authoritys website www.fanr.gov.ae and members of the public can send their comments to regulation@fanr.gov.ae during the next 30 days. FANRs nuclear glossary can help interested readers to understand the specific vocabulary used in this regulatory guide. As with previous regulations and regulatory guides, this draft guide has already been made available for 30 days to local and federal government entities for their comments. An earlier draft was also presented to licensees during the outreach workshops FANR conducted in October. The UAEs independent regulator for the nuclear sector recognises the importance of inviting the public to comment. FANRs policy of operational transparency is based on the Federal Law by Decree No. 6 of 2009, Concerning the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy. Since FANRs establishment on 24 September 2009, the regulator has asked its external stakeholders to review and comment on 10 draft regulations and five regulatory guides through web-based communication or face-to-face meetings.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2011.
