The list of Major winners heading for the Emirates Golf Club continues to grow with Nick Faldo winner of three Masters and three Opens the latest big name to enter the 2003 Dubai Desert Classic.
With 42 titles to his name, Faldo remains Europe's most successful-ever golfer and he joins an entry list of players positively brimming with class and quality. Already Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke have announced their intentions to play at the Emirates Golf Club from March 6-9.
At 45, Faldo shows he can still compete with the very best. However, it is his willingness to give something back to the game he loves so much that has put him in the headlines over the past few years with the launch of his hugely-successful Faldo Junior series.
"I launched the Faldo Junior Series in 1996 to identify and nurture the next generation of champions," he said.
"I believe some of these players will go on to challenge for major honours on the PGA European Tour and the Ladies European Tour; compete in the Walker, Ryder, Curtis and Solheim Cup teams; and advance the cause of European golf world-wide."
Faldo added: "To date, we've helped produce a significant number of boys and girls in the Great Britain and Ireland and national teams, two members of the victorious 2001 Walker Cup team and three members of the 2003 Walker Cup squad. Three times Faldo Junior Series Champion, Nick Dougherty has also successfully turned pro and is making huge strides on the European Tour."
Sponsored by Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL), the PGA European Tour event will be held over the Majlis Course.
Other sponsors include official carrier and Hole-In-One sponsor Emirates Airline; official caterer, hotel and challenge match sponsor Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa; co-sponsors Arabian Ranches by Emaar; Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation; official courtesy car BMW, and official newspaper Gulf News.
