WESTERN REGION: The falcon hunting competition concluded Friday on the sidelines of the 5th Al Dhafra Festival.
Around 150 Gyr/Saker Falcon (or Gyr/Hurr), a popular falcon for hunting, and owners participated in the competition which attracted a host of enthusiasts and owners. "Abu Wazn", owned by Mohammed Markhan Al Ketbi won the first place as it finished the 400-meter race in 20.449 seconds, followed by "Rafi", owned by Ahmed Suwaidan Al Qamzi, 20.639 seconds and "Shuja", owned by Saeed Jaber Abdullah which finished the race in 20.832 seconds, according to Obaid Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director of the Heritage Competitions at the Festival.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2011.
