Abu Dhabi, 30 March 05 (WAM) -- - Etisalat, Case Technology and theUnited Arab Emirates Internet Community in collaboration with the GlobalIPv6 Forum announced the inauguration of the UAE IPv6 Task Force duringthe second Gulf IPv6 Summit currently taking place in Abu Dhabi.

The objective of this initiative is to speed up deployment and uptakeof the new Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) with support from industrial,educational and research communities and government agencies. This willenable equitable access to knowledge by extending to it a strong voiceand a legitimate representation in the new Internet world.

The UAE IPv6 Task Force will be an open body and a wide platform for theindustry, research and education sectors to design global recommendations,education programs, test beds and play a liaison role with the internationalIPv6 Forum community.

The charter and the program of this initiative was discussed during theevent with its founding organizational members Etisalat and Case Technology.

New milestones will soon be announced to welcome representatives fromthe UAE business community to join this effort.

According to Itidal Hasoon General Manager, Case Technology and Co ChairMEA IPv6TF(Middle East and Africa Internet Protocol version 6 Task Force),"Our pioneering efforts in helping the Gulf States transition to IPv6has got to a good start. This is a long term process which will lead tothe adoption of next generation applications and services, which willsignificantly impact the development of nations. My intention is to attractthe leading companies and institutions in the region to work in closecollaboration with the various regional and international groups to putUAE on the global IPv6 map.""The UAE IPv6 Task Force is a strategic milestone in the adoption of theNew Internet Protocol. This will give the region a strong voice and legitimaterepresentation in the new Internet world to enable equal access to knowledgeand education on New Generation Internet technologies and generate interestin deploying IPv6 for the national good", said Latif Ladid, Chairman ofthe European IPv6 Task Force, President of the IPv6 Forum and InternetSociety Trustee Emeritus.

The Internet has been using Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) for thelast 2 decades. IPv4 is showing signs of strains especially in its limitedaddress space and its fast depletion. IPv6 preserves everything that'sgood about today's Internet and adds much more: unlimited address spaceto connect everyone and everything, stateless auto-configuration, seamlessmobility, automated network management, mandatory security and new optionalservice levels.
